Driverless tube trains ruled out for ‘foreseeable future'

26 October 2012

ASLEF cautiously welcomed today’s announcement from London Underground that driverless tube trains have been ruled out for the ‘foreseeable future’ across the network. The statement follows recent opposition to the testing of driverless trains on the Jubilee Line among the union’s members in the test train operator and duty team leader grades.

ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘the union has long campaigned against the introduction of driverless tube trains because they fundamentally compromise safety on the underground so today’s announcement is a welcome acknowledgement of that and the views of our members on the Jubilee Line.’
