Central Trains abrogation of agreements

09 December 2005

The Executive Committee are supporting union members of Central Trains in their quest for adequate rostering.

Correspondence from Birmingham New Street Branch Street and District 6 District Organiser expressed concerns regarding the company"s abrogation of agreements relating to the 2006 annual leave rosters.

The District Organiser reported that management have stated their intention to impose links/rosters, which is clearly in breach of the DRI.

Under the DRI all links are by negotiation and agreement locally. Failure to do this will result in agreements on transfers or work being broken.

The Executive Committee were of the view that our members shouldbe supported and the following resolution was adopted;

1107/431 “That the report and correspondence be noted and the General Secretary be instructed to advise the Managing Director Central Trains that the managerial abrogation of agreements in relation to rostering and link and annual leave practices is totally unacceptable to ASLEF.

Further that the General Secretary be instructed to give the, statutory notice of our intention to ballot our members employed by Central Trains for a series of 24 hour discontinuous strikes. Provisions of the statutory regulations to apply.

Ballot Papers to be returned by first post 9th January 2006.

All branches and reps, Central Trains be advised.”

(Note to members: In the interim period, members are advised that the status quo should apply. Members should also note that the repudiation notice issued in respect of Crewe and Birmingham New Street depots in no way affects the status of this ballot.)
