ASLEF urges Labour to strengthen employment rights

17 September 2015

ASLEF today submitted a motion to the Labour conference urging the Party to increase employment and trade union rights as part of a progressive economic policy. The union is calling on the new leadership to build on the work undertaken by the Party’s Work and Prosperity Commission before the election.

General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘Our country needs a more even balance of power between corporations and trade unions. Stronger employment and trade union rights are central to addressing this. They increase productivity, reduce inequality and help create a more balanced economy. That’s why we are asking the Labour Party to commit to ensuring that a new framework of enhanced rights at work is at the heart of a progressive Labour economic policy.’
