Boycott the Evening Standard

05 September 2005

Circular

TO: ALL BRANCHES IN THE GLA AREA

Fellow Members,

EVENING STANDARD

Over the past months, the vitriolic attacks on our members and fellow trade unionists by the Evening Standard have reached such an obscene level.

Now this union has decided to take stand and will boycott any interviews and contact with the Evening Standard which has taken an even more extreme right wing agenda then it did under previous editorship.

During the recent dispute with LUL management the Evening Standard aided and abetted the disgraceful slurs and lies that LUL management were perpetrating and led a feeding frenzy of personal insults against our members and fellow trade unionists. The Evening Standard’s agenda was to whip the public into frenzy against workers on London Underground.

The Evening Standard while printing these inflammatory remarks and character assassination, refused the right of reply to this union and others. This censorship has been extended to the Mayor of London due to his assistance in ending this dispute.

I urge all members to boycott the Evening Standard and encourage their colleagues friends and families to do so as well. Hitting these people in the pocket is the only language they understand.

Please bring this to the attention of your members.

Yours fraternally

M D RIX
General Secretary
