AAD Sunday

08 May 2016

ASLEF’s Annual Assembly of Delegates – our annual conference – is being held from Monday 9 to Friday 13 May at the Macdonald Highlands hotel in Aviemore in the foothills of the Cairngorms. It is the first time since the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen was formed in 1880 that our annual conference has been held in the Highlands of Scotland. AAD is ASLEF’s parliament, the foundation of our union’s democratic structure. ‘This is the most important body of ASLEF,’ Tosh McDonald will say in his president’s address to delegates tomorrow. ‘You make the policy that we carry out.’ Every branch has the right to propose changes and the chance to send a delegate to the place where we make policy and establish our priorities and plans for the year ahead. The snow was on the hills, but the sun was shining on Aviemore, as delegates arrived today.
