FIRST NORTH WESTERN MANAGEMENT “INTIMIDATION OF MEMBER – THREAT OF DISCIPLINE”

02 September 2005

A letter was sent this week to a First North Western member. The letter, informing our member of his attendance on a rules course starting on Monday 9 September, contains the phrase:

"if you try to influence the trainees in any way you will be removed from the course, then disciplinary action will be taken.’

ASLEF regard this phrase as confrontational and a blatant attempt to intimidate a union member. The threat of discipline, in this context, is in itself an abuse of the disciplinary procedures. It is another example of how low First North Western management has stooped in their ‘dirty tricks’ campaign in this dispute.

Rest assured, ASLEF pledges the full backing and support of the union to defend our members from this sort of intimidation.
