Freight Drivers vote for Industrial Action

19 August 2005

ASLEF members on EWS and EWS International have voted by an overwhelmingly majority for industrial action. 84% of drivers on EWS International voted for industrial action, as did 75% of drivers on EWS

The vote for industrial action follows a long period of frustration, continuous disappointment and the repeated determination by EWS/I management to avoid discussing the issues that really matter to EWS/I members: -

· Implementation of a 35 hour week

· 100% Pensionable pay

· substantial increase in rates of pay with cuts in working hours

ASLEF General Secretary Mick Rix said

"Our members do not take industrial action lightly but the continued avoidance of the EWS/I management team in discussing the real issues has forced us to take this action"

Strike Dates are as follows:

Sat. Feb. 1st 15:00            to            Sun. Feb. 2nd 14:59

Sat. Feb. 8th 15:00           to            Sun. Feb. 9th 14:59
