ASLEF supports World Day for Decent Work

07 October 2016

ASLEF supports the International Trade Union Confederation’s (ITUC) World Day for Decent Work 2016 which today calls for an end to corporate greed. We are proud to stand alongside hundreds of trade unions throughout the world today in calling for good jobs and decent work.

ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘my union is proud to support his important day which highlights the essential role of decent work in building a sustainable economic future. Decent work means secure and unionised employment. Decent work is the surest way to create economic growth and reduce inequality.’

Mick added ‘Too many governments around the world have failed to regulate the greed and excess of business. This has led to an increase in casualised work and zero hours contracts masquerading as flexibility. A sustainable economic future needs decent work.’
