Campaign for Better Transport Petition

02 February 2017

The Campaign for Better Transport has launched a petition to ask MPs to keep longer lorries out of our towns. The Government has decided to allow 1,000 additional longer lorries onto UK roads as part of a trial. These lorries are almost six times more likely than cars to be involved in fatal crashes on local roads, and they're particularly dangerous to cyclists.

They also seriously undermine freight on rail (http://www.freightonrail.org.uk/factsfigures.htm)

Long lorriesNow the Government has decided to extend the trial with longer lorries for a further five years after 2022 and allow a further 1,000 longer lorries onto our roads. The Campaign for Better Transport says the decision is based on flawed research and they are calling for the trial to be restricted to roads which have been deemed safe by the local authorities.
