MAINTRAIN DISPUTE: HARMONISATION OF PAY

 

TO: ALL BRANCHES & REPRESENTATIVES - DISTRICTS 3, 4, AND 6

Further to Head Office Circular 654/2003.

 

On 18 December 2003, following lengthy discussions between ASLEF and Maintrain, assisted by ACAS, a revised offer was proposed.

 

A two year pay deal is offered, based upon Depot Driver Operatives (DDO) receiving a 2.5% rise, plus an additional 2.5% rise of a Driver Operative’s salary. The Driver Operatives will have a pay freeze for 2 years.

 

The table below sets out how by April 2005 all Depot Driver Operatives would receive the 10.5% overall rise to be equal in pay with Driver Operatives.

 

ASLEF would not be part of the Joint Pay Forum until April 2006. After April 2005 all drivers would be Service Drivers, £23,937 would be the rate for the job and would apply to all new drivers.

 

In their 22 December 2003 session, the Executive Committee gave consideration to a report from District Secretary, District No.4, and adopted the following resolution:-

“That the correspondence be noted and the General Secretary be instructed to suspend the planned industrial action on Maintrain and conduct an internal referendum of our member grades affected by 15 th January 2004, with the recommendation of the Executive Committee, Company Council and Lead Officer for acceptance.

 

“Further, the District Secreber 2003, 31 December –1 January 2004 have been suspended, pending the result of the internal referendum.

 

Referendum papers will be distributed locally and the closing date will be 15 January 2004.

 

The revised offer is recommended by the Executive Committee, Company Council and Lead Officer for acceptance.
