DfT admit rail isn’t working

News reports today of a high level briefing document from the Department for Transport suggest the government is preparing to take greater control of the running of train operating companies. The document states that the franchise model ‘faces real challenge’ and questions whether the structure is commercially and politically sustainable.

 

Commenting on the reports ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘the government won’t admit that their rail policy has failed but the fact that they are planning a significant intervention into the running of the industry is an admission that their model is flawed beyond repair.’
