Concerns about fast tracking

In August 2017 the Executive Committee was informed of concerns among some members regarding the competencies and experience required of second members of staff on board passenger services.  This was in relation to the ‘fast tracking’ of train managers to temporarily stand in as senior conductors and carry out the duties of guards.  The Executive Committee advised that if members believe the individual working as the train guard does not have the necessary training, they should challenge that person and ask to see the relevant certification.  Any operating incident should be reported immediately (EC resolutions 925/478 and 942/478).
