World Mental Health Day

10 October 2018

As we mark World Mental Health Day, Mick Whelan, ASLEF's general secretary, said: 'Our thoughts today are with all those who have mental health issues, their families, friends, and colleagues, and all those who are or have been impacted by these challenges.

'In the rail industry, we know only too well the tragic results when things get too much for someone. Our drivers, in particular, are affected when someone chooses to end their life by stepping in front of a train. That's why we actively support the work of The Samaritans, and other stakeholders in the industry, and why we urge anyone who has a problem to pick up the phone,or seek out a counsellor, or friend, and talk. Because there are people who will listen, and organisations that can help.'
