Union Activity
ASLEF at national level has ensured that:
- cab conditions will be included in every pay claim submitted this year - so it is raised in a formal and regular way with every rail company.
- cab conditions will be raised as a matter of urgency at joint safety group level with every companies
ASLEF has:
- raised the issue with HM Railway Inspectorate (HMRI) who have asked us for advice on which specific companies, and what particular rolling stock, are a cause of concern
- convinced the RSSB's SPAD Focus Group to investigate what information needs to be collected from drivers about this issue - and to evaluate cost-effective ways of cooling cabs.
ASLEF is:
- contacting senior politicians and opinion-formers to underline the safety aspects of driving cab conditions
- raising the issue with members of Parliament
- calling on MPs to sign a House of Commons Early Day Motion backing our campaign
ASLEF is urging it members to:
- raise the issue of unacceptable cab conditions with management whenever possible - so they know the strength of feeling of our members
- report every single incident of poor conditions on every occasion - and ask for a written responses to their comments
- make sure union reps have up-to-date information we can send to the HMRI to target problem companies and rolling stock.
- contact politicians to raise the issue and support the EDM when it is raised in the House.
