Union Activity

ASLEF at national level has ensured that:

• cab conditions will be included in every pay claim submitted this year - so it is raised in a formal and regular way with every rail company.
• cab conditions will be raised as a matter of urgency at joint safety group level with every companies

ASLEF has:

• raised the issue with HM Railway Inspectorate (HMRI) who have asked us for advice on which specific companies, and what particular rolling stock, are a cause of concern
• convinced the RSSB's SPAD Focus Group to investigate what information needs to be collected from drivers about this issue - and to evaluate cost-effective ways of cooling cabs.

ASLEF is:

• contacting senior politicians and opinion-formers to underline the safety aspects of driving cab conditions
• raising the issue with members of Parliament
• calling on MPs to sign a House of Commons Early Day Motion backing our campaign

ASLEF is urging it members to:

• raise the issue of unacceptable cab conditions with management whenever possible - so they know the strength of feeling of our members
• report every single incident of poor conditions on every occasion - and ask for a written responses to their comments
• make sure union reps have up-to-date information we can send to the HMRI to target problem companies and rolling stock.
• contact politicians to raise the issue and support the EDM when it is raised in the House.
