Lifelong Learning Network/TUC Unionlearn University Certificate in Learning Through Work
Are you an ASLEF member living/working in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area or working for East Midlands Trains?
Would you like the chance to study a programme at University level about a subject with which you are most familiar and are most likely already an expert, ie what you do at work?
Well now you can!
ASLEF Proud to Educate is pleased to offer 3 places on this new programme run by the University of Derby in association with TUC Unionlearn and Leap Ahead, the Lifelong Learning Network for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Lots of people already access university level short courses through ‘Learning Through Work’ and many even go on to complete Degree and even Masters Degree qualifications! Unionlearn has teamed up with Leap Ahead and the ‘Learning Through Work’ team at the University of Derby to develop a Higher Education ‘taster’ programme, ideal for people who are in employment but who feel they would never have the confidence to study at university level. You would be fully supported by a tutor throughout the programme both face-to-face and on-line and the programme is so flexible that you can study at a time and place that suits you.
There are no exams but you are required to complete assignments. Each assignment is designed to help you gradually build up the study skills appropriate for university level study but based upon a subject about which you are already an expert, your workplace and your role within it. At the end of the course, which should take about a year to complete, you will be awarded a University Certificate in Learning Through Work which is worth 60 credits – this is university speak for about half of the first year of a degree course. This certificate provides evidence to a university that you have what it takes to be successful in studying at university level. You may even decide to continue with your studies and embark on studying towards a full university level qualification part-time. The choice is yours!
The full cost of the programme is £650, but there are a limited number of places available at a reduced cost of £300.
If you are interested in taking up this opportunity to stretch yourself that little bit further, please apply in writing stating in no more than 500 words why you would like the opportunity to trial university level study.
You should be ready to commence your studies during spring 2009.
If you would like more information please contact Chris Nutty on 07748624369 or submit your application
to cnutty@hotmail.co.uk no later than 31st January 2009.
