Education & Training
ASLEF Education - Scotland
ASLEF Education in Scotland has secured funding for a further year. This will allow us to continue to second an ASLEF member to manage the project, Yoker branch member Alan Reid.
The main aim of the project is to continue the up skilling of train drivers in Scotland. Our main partners are Scottish Union Learning (SUL) who supplies the funding and Stow College Trade Union Department, who deliver the learner on our behalf. All our learning is free to ASLEF members and delivered in a shift friendly manner, run in the morning and repeated in the afternoon and where possible also in the workplace. It is through our partnership with Stow College TUED that we can deliver the learning in this manner, without this partnership we would have to charge members for the courses.
As well as the fund to run the project we have been successful in securing a sum of money from the SUL Learning Fund to run two specialist courses aimed at our members in the freight industry. These courses will be run, one, in Motherwell and, one, in Edinburgh and will see train drivers learn new skills.
