BRANCH SECRETARIES’ course – April 2015

A course has been arranged aimed at recently elected Branch Secretaries, covering the roles and responsibilities of the post and will also assist in the day today operation of a branch including organisation, communication, finances and activism within ASLEF – getting your branch’s voice heard.

Please note, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The course will be held on the 8, 9 and 10 April at Esher Place, 30 Esher Place Avenue, Esher, Surrey, KT10 8PZ.

Members attending would be expected to arrive for a 1.00pm start on Wednesday 8 April and the course is intended to finish for a 3pm departure on the 10 April. Accommodation and meals will be provided.

We are running a training course to explain the function and procedures of the ASLEF AAD and give an overview of conference as a whole. The course will take place on Wednesday 1April 2015 and is open to all ASLEF members, particularly new delegates and those members who have not had the opportunity to attend AAD but would like to in the future.

The course will start at10.30am and will take place at the Marx Memorial Library, 37a Clerkenwell Green,London, EC1R 0DU.

The course will cover:

  • AAD role, responsibilities and powers.

  • AAD documentation, the purpose and relevance. Who’s who at conference.

  • AAD decision making process and day to day business e.g. electing chair/vice chair, approving the finance report, arrangements committee report, etc.

  • Motions structure and how to write a motion, how to get your voice heard, address the conference etc.

  • An overview of Citrines (rules of debate) and effective public speaking.
