The current Economic situation and EWS

8 Dec 2008

The Full TCCC,along with Nick Whitehead,CC Lead Officer and EC members Tosh McDonald and Brian Corbett were briefed on Thursday 4th December by Senior EWS management on proposals by the company to deal with the current economic downturn

The senior EWS management present explained that the current economic crisis in the UK has greatly impacted on EWS given the companys major role in the UK supply chain as a whole.

The projected outlook for tonnage moved and revenues is significantly down and the demand for Steel,Scrap,Cars,Petroleum,Minerals,Coal and Intermodal will be a lot lower over the coming 12-18 months.

This will result in staff reductions and the TCCC and ASLEF Reps present were given projected numbers of Traincrew affected by the reductions in workload and revenues.

Over the coming few weeks the TCCC and Executive commitee will be working to get the numbers lower. The numbers of Traincrew affected will be in the TCCC reports section of this website.

In the meantime if any Drivers have any questions please contact your Local Reps or Company Council reps.
