- Solid support for South West Trains ‘Taxi’ dispute
- 31/05/2006ASLEF members working for South West Trains have solidly supported the industrial action called by the union in a dispute over taxis. Regional Organiser Graham Morris says, ‘The company used to provide staff trains for drivers working early morning or late night shifts until they decided to cancel them all.
- Union to ballot members in First Great Western
- 19/05/2006The ASLEF executive committee has resolved to ballot its driver members in First Great Western, recommending support for a series of 24 hour discontinuous strikes. The company is accused of deliberately ignoring aspects of the 2004 pay deal and changing conditions of service without negotiations.
- Union explains pension stance
- 16/05/2006ASLEF President Alan Donnelly is to write to all members to explain the Executive Committee’s position on pensions. He will first remind members of the Joint Union Campaign - to protect members’ pension benefits; cap employee contribution rates at a maximum of 10.56%; and achieve a commitment to streamline the pension schemes and prevent the closure of schemes to new entrants.

- NO ROOM AT THE RAIL PENSION LOBBY!
- 12/05/2006The number of rail union members who turned out for the Lobby of Parliament on Tuesday meant that a planned rally had to be divided into two Committee Rooms at the Palace of Westminster. The speakers at the rally – Francis O’Grady (TUC), Keith Norman (ASLEF), Bob Crow (RMT), Gerry Doherty (TSSA) and John Wall (Amicus) – scurried from room to room to get the pensions message over.
