ASLEF’s Mick wins DB Works Council spot

21 November 2008

Mick Finn from EWS has won the ballot for the UK representative on the Deutsche Bahn European Works Council. Keith Norman says he is delighted for Mick and pleased for our union. ‘I’m sure he will do a good job for all DB workers in the UK, and it is an honor for the union that he has been elected.’

Although a total of 42 people stood in the ballot from all sections of DB’s workforce, Mick managed to secure 22% of the total vote.

‘I’d like to thank all those who voted for me,’ he says. ‘I will not let them down.’

The works council is a forum for management and workers to exchange views outside the formal negotiating machinery. While it is not empowered to take formal decisions that will affect employees’ terms and conditions - that’s the union’s job – management will use it to get a flavour of what its staff feel is important.
