ASLEF for Edwina in Wales

21 October 2009

ASLEF is supporting Assembly Member Edwina Hart to be the next leader of the Welsh Labour Party and will be recommending her candidature to members in the election ballot of union members for the post which will run in November.

Keith Norman, ASLEF General Secretary said ‘Rhodri Morgan will be a very hard act to follow but I believe Edwina Hart is the best person to take Welsh Labour forward. Edwina is rooted in the values of the Labour movement and has delivered for rail in Wales during her time as an AM and Minister.’

Commenting on ASLEF’s support Edwina said: “If I am elected as First Minister I will insist that the rail unions are consulted and involved as a matter of priority when transport is on the agenda.” She added “I strongly believe that rail workers have a unique understanding of what’s required if we’re going to have a high quality, sustainable transport system.”
