Saturday Doncaster protest against mayor

10 September 2009

ASLEF is encouraging members to join a protest against Doncaster’s Mayor Davies at the city’s Mansion House at 1100 this coming Saturday – 12 September.

The Mayor has adopted a fiercely anti-trade union attitude as he attacks public services and the whole equalities agenda. The most flagrant example of this has been his treatment of UNISON’s Doncaster branch secretary Jim Board.

Jim was suspended on 7 September after giving an interview to Channel 4 news in which he defended children's services in Doncaster. On the same day Mayor Davies condemned UNISON and appealed for workers to join the union affiliated to his own party – the extremist-eccentric ‘Workers of England’.

Jim Board and UNISON must be at the forefront of the fight against the Mayor’s attempts to cut Doncaster’s jobs and services. They deserve our support.
