Urgent action needed on District Line

28 August 2009

Legal action could force the District Line to close unless urgent remedial action is taken, Inspector Quentin Cole who oversees TfL has warned.

The announcement came after three trains went through red ‘danger’ signals. All the incidents happened in the vicinity of Kensington High Street between February 23 and March 17.

Steve Grant, London Underground district organiser for ASLEF said “We have repeatedly warned of the dangers of putting train service above safety of passengers.”

“It seems the reports of some incidents have been falsified or covered up and this gives me great concern. London Underground must take action immediately. The consequences of not doing so would be disastrous.”

Quentin Cole wrote to senior Tube manager Jill Collis to warn that she must come up with an improvement plan by 15 September or face legal sanctions.
