19 November Wales action suspended

18 November 2010

Industrial action planned for 19 November by ASLEF's 478 train driver members in Arriva Trains Wales has been suspended.

This follows intensive negotiations between the union and ATW management yesterday which led to a series of understandings and commitments which union representatives believe is the basis for a settlement.

The two sides will meet again early next week to tie up details of a new, improved, offer from the company.

'The union side believe we have the basis of a settlement,' says lead negotiator Stan Moran. 'If all goes well when we get down to final details, we will consider lifting the action proposed for 26 and 27 of this month.'

Final acceptance of the offer will be put to the membership in a ballot, as is the practice within ASLEF before any deal is finally approved.
