Wales crossing crash

19 December 2011

A passenger train was involved in a crash with a lorry and trailer carrying hay at a level crossing in Whitland, Carmarthenshire just before ten o’clock this morning. The crossing was featured in a TV safety campaign last year. A more serious accident was prevented by the swift reactions and sharp braking of the train driver.

The train did not derail.

The union is making no comment until it knows the details of the incident, but urged all people using crossings to exercise caution and diligence especially during the winter months of poor light and inclement weather.

We understand that the driver of the vehicle crossing the line has been arrested.
