General Secretary to leave by end of the year

24 May 2011

ASLEF’s general secretary Keith Norman told today’s conference that he has asked the executive committee to arrange an election for the post of general secretary. ‘I believe it is time for me to step down,’ he says, adding that he will expect to leave his post by the end of the year. ‘I leave a union in a good financial state, and will have overseen the move of the union’s head office to a new building,’ he said. ‘These are two objectives I set for myself when I became general secretary.’ Delegates took to their feet to applaud 63-year old Keith at the end of his statement.
