Union welcomes plans for high speed rail beyond Birmingham

08 October 2012

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin today told the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham that he would soon be publishing detailed plans for a high speed rail route north of Birmingham which could reduce the journey time between London and Scotland to less than three hours.

ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘I look forward to reading the details of plans for high speed rail beyond Birmingham. This trade union has long argued that the country needs a high speed network and not simply a high speed line and the sooner we begin this debate the better.’
