Tyne and Wear strike action suspended

15 June 2012

Following an initial strike day at Tyne and Wear Metro on the 7th June, the second day of planned strike action has been suspended.

RMT and Unite members are involved in the same pay dispute which arose from the Deutsche Bahn (DB) / NEXUS decision that wages should be limited to the Average Weekly Earning Index. This would effectively mean the end of any negotiations and could lead to wages losing value each year.

‘After an improved offer, and pending a referendum of our members, we are suspending the strike action planned for the 21st June,’ says Mick Whelan.
