Union mourns German crash

13 April 2012

Mick Whelan has written to the German rail union to express the union’s sympathy following today’s train crash near Offenbach which led to three fatalities, including a driver.

Mick said, ‘We were saddened to hear about the collision between a regional passenger train and a works engine near the town of Offenbach this morning.

‘It was reported in the UK press that one train driver and two construction workers were killed and that seven passengers were seriously injured. Our sympathies are with these people and their families.

‘We hope that the investigations now underway are successful in identifying the cause of the crash, in order to prevent this from happening again.’
