Time for ASLEF to go to the dogs?

Well, not quite the dogs, but general secretary Mick Whelan came back from the festive break with a splendid idea for boosting the union’s finances. ‘We could have a punt at the bookies,’ he proposed.

Mick had seen that bookmakers Ladbrokes are offering 10/1 that ASLEF will call a tube strike at some point during the Olympics. ‘We could put all our liquid money on it happening, call a day’s industrial action, pay the drivers to have a day off - and still clean up,’ he suggested.

Of course, everyone chuckled.

But on the other hand, Mick did once work for a bank …!
