Cross border megatrucks' progress slowed down

The research which will be carried out by the European Commissionby 2016 will also include analysis of modal shift and infrastructure costs.

General Secretary Mick Whelan commented, “We welcome this sensible approach. All the analysis shows that megatrucks will be detrimental to the UK with huge safety, environmental and economic ramifications. We are glad that the Transport Committee has therefore recommended further examination of the consequences of allowing these vehicles to cross borders throughout Europe.”

The vote on the weights and dimensions directive 96/53 is scheduled to go before the full Parliament on 14th April.
