Network Rail demo

29 August 2014

'We believe that, as a public service, reliant on public funding, the railway should be under public ownership,' says Mick Whelan. 'And on Monday we will be making the case that Network Rail moving into the public sector should be just the start of the process to create a progressive, integrated and democratically accountable railway under public ownership.'

Mick adds: 'Scaremongering about the implications for the economy of Network Rail’s£30 billion debt being added to the public books ignores the fact that keeping Network Rail’s debt off the books was always an accounting trick. Ultimately,it is the taxpayer and fare payer who ends up paying off the debts.'
