TTIP: Write to your MEP

27 May 2015

The European Parliament will vote soon on a resolution on the controversial TTIP trade agreement between the EU and the US (Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership). This is a crucial opportunity for MEPs to hold the European Commission to account and make clear that they must negotiate trade deals in the public interest, not for private profit.

Please visit http://act.goingtowork.org.uk/TTIP and write to your MEP calling on them to make sure the TTIP resolution includes: defence of workers’ rights; protection for public services; removal of ISDS and special courts for foreign investors; and no reduction in regulatory protections for workers, consumers or the environment.

TTIP poses significant threats to democratic decision-making, public services, jobs and wages, and to protections for working people, consumers and the environment. Visit the TUC website for more information on the campaign for MEPs to support a resolution on TTIP, demanding that the European Commission:

· defend workers’ rights, as set out in the eight core conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)

· protect public services, by setting out a boundary between services to be opened up to competition and those that will remain in the public sector,now and in the future;

· remove Investor-State Dispute Settlement and special courts for foreign investors (ISDS), so that foreign investors don’t enjoy special privileges

· promote good jobs and decent wages

· maintain regulatory protections for workers,consumers and the environment
