Information for ASLEF Members

Background

Following the rejection of the previous offer the negotiating team have been in discussion with Silverlink to reach resolution on the outstanding issues of concern.

In their December 2002 session the Executive Committee adopted resolution 991/418

"That the report and correspondence be noted and the General Secretary instructed to make the necessary arrangements to conduct a referendum of ASLEF’s driving grade members with the joint recommendation of the Executive Committee, District Secretary District No. 6 and Silverlink Company Council for acceptance. Referendum papers to be returned by first post Wednesday 22 January 2003. On the proviso that the issue relating to trainee drivers is resolved to the satisfaction of our negotiating team. All branches and representatives Silverlink be advised."

Rest Day Working

On giving consideration to a report from the Silverlink Company Council, the Executive Committee sanctioned a period of Rest Day Working for Silverlink to the end of the Summer Timetable 2003.

Sick Pay 
Clause linking sick pay to MFA removed from package – new clause restricting sick pay to 90% for self certified absence after 9 days in total.

Spare Movement 
Existing arrangements to remain in place – to be reviewed once RDW has ended.

Notice Periods 
Drivers with 5 years service can give 3 months notice of resignation. 3 – 5 years is 4 months and less than 3 years to give 6 months notice.

Medically restricted drivers 
Salary to be protected at 90% of substantive rate.

Other Items
· Instructor drivers pay to be dynamic with drivers’ rate of pay
· Rewording of clause 9 to protect work and to provide 8 Medically restricted positions for lifetime of deal
· Leave quotaties removed from deal
· Protection of staff travel into retirement confirmed
· Trainee drivers to move onto the applicable driver rate on validation or after 35 weeks whichever is sooner
