Petition to keep Island Line

Like many small branch lines, Island Line is currently underwritten by the profitable main commuter routes in the wider franchise. The Government’s plan for it to be self-sustaining puts its future viability at serious risk.

It is now less than a month until the consultation on the next South Western rail franchise ends, on 9th February. The Government’s proposal is that Island Line be taken out of the regional franchise and turned into a separate and self-sustaining business. This can only be bad news for the Isle of Wight.

We believe that franchise bidders should be required to put forward plans to make the much-needed investment in the service, rather than wash their hands of it. To sign the petition which has just been launched on the Parliament website visit:
