Mick slams DfT official

22 February 2016

Mick Whelan, general secretary of ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, has slammed a DfT official who reportedly made extraordinary comments about train drivers at a public meeting in Croydon.

Mick said: ‘If the comments attributed to Peter Wilkinson are accurate, well, we can help him with his wishes. In an industry that is dependent on the goodwill of train drivers, particularly the flexibility required for future electrification, and new trains, it is quite obvious that this man does not know what he is talking about.’

Mick has today written to Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Transport, to see if he will confirm that these lies are the views of the government and the department he runs. ‘If not,’ said Mick, ‘We will expect him to remove Mr Wilkinson from his post immediately.’
