STRIKE ACTION ON FIRST NORTH WESTERN SUSPENDED

02 September 2005

Strike action by ASLEF members employed by First North Western, due to commence on Sunday 28th July, was suspended on 26th July following the signing of an agreement between the union and the company.

This was made possible by the Strategic Rail Authority agreeing to allow the deal to go ahead. The agreement provides for a staged increase in train drivers pay on FNW to £28,000 a year.

ASLEF general secretary Mick Rix said:

"I am pleased that my members working on FNW have secured the pay parity with their colleagues which they deserve without having to have recourse to industrial action."
