Mick re elected general secretary

26 February 2016

Mick Whelan was today re-elected as general secretary of ASLEF, the train drivers’ union.

Nominations closed today and nobody in the trade union decided to run against Mick. Mick’s re-election will be endorsed at the next meeting of ASLEF’s executive committee in March.

It is Mick’s second five-year term as GS. He was first elected GS in November 2011 and will consequently start his second term this November, and will be in position until 2021.

Mick said: ʻI would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those members, and officers, for their support, for all the nominations I received to run for a second term, and for all the messages I have had from men and women in this union. It is an enormous privilege to serve as general secretary of this trade union, and I will work just as hard for all our members for the next five years as I have during my first term.’
