Leader who believes in public ownership

Tosh McDonald, speaking from the podium in the transport debate on Sunday afternoon, said: ‘It is great to have a leadership which believes in the public ownership of the railway because we all know that privatisation doesn’t work. Take the East Coast. The privateers couldn’t make it work but, under public ownership, it returned £1 billion to the Treasury. It’s not just right for passengers, it’s right for freight, too, and we’ve just had the first redundancies of train drivers in the freight sector.’ Tosh also moved a composite motion on defending and promoting public services in the debate on the economy on Monday afternoon.
