Government dithering jeopardises integrity of HS2

ASLEF supports HS2 as a project which will deliver much needed new capacity for the British rail network by the time it opens in 2033.

Commenting on the publication of the route ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said ‘after three years of delays it’s good to have a bit more clarity on where phase 2 of HS2 will actually be built. Like the third runway, today’s announcement is a decision of sorts although the government is still consulting in seven areas. I’m concerned that the government’s dithering and uncertainty threaten to bring the project into disrepute.’
