ASLEF members on Virgin Trains East Coast have voted overwhelmingly for strike action in a dispute over pay.

In a ballot conducted by Electoral Reform Services drivers were asked two questions:

Are you prepared to take part in a strike?

Yes 193 [71.2%]

No 78 [28.8%]

Are you prepared to take part in industrial action short of a strike?

Yes 248 [92.2%]

No 21 [7.8%]

Turnout was 82.1% [330 papers issued; 276 returned]

Any decision based on the outcome of the ballot has been postponed to allow for a referendum of members on a revised pay offer made by the company yesterday [13 December].
