In their session of 10 December 2003 the Executive Committee considered correspondence from Waterloo International Branch, reports from District Secretary No.1 and the Eurostar Company Council and the Scrutineers Report, in respect of the Eurostar - 2003 Pay Award.

The Executive Committee passed the following resolution;

921/423 "That the report be noted and due to the overwhelming rejection of the 2003 Pay Offer, the General Secretary be instructed to issue Eurostar the statutory notice of ASLEF"s intention to ballot ASLEF members for a series of discontinuous 24 hour strikes."

The result of the referendum was as follows:

Question : "Do you accept the Eurostar 2003 Pay Award as set out in the enclosed letter?"

Those Members Voting YES - 21.2%

Those Members Voting NO - 78.8%

In light of members" rejection of the imposed pay award, arrangements are being made to conduct an industrial action ballot of ASLEF Eurostar members.

The ballot is expected to commence in the New Year, with a closing date to coincide with the Executive Committee"s January 2004 session, which is scheduled for the week commencing Monday 19 January 2004.
