MPs call for root & branch reform of Britain's railways

03 December 2018

A damning report by the House of Commons Transport Select Committee will, tomorrow, call for root and branch reform of Britain's railways after the chaos suffered by passengers this summer.

Mick Whelan, general secretary of ASLEF, said: 'The Secretary of State for Transport, if he had any sense of embarrassment, or responsibility, would do the decent thing and resign. He won’t, of course. Everything is always someone else‘s fault, as far as he’s concerned.

'The truth is we don’t want, or need, reform. We need a radical solution to a structural problem. We need to bring our railways back into public ownership - a promise Labour has made to the electorate - and run our railway as a proper public service, not for private profit.'
