ASLEF General Secretary vote inconclusive

01 July 2005

ASLEF, the train driver’s union which was beset by internal difficulties last year, moved closer towards stability today as its members voted to reduce to two the number of candidates for its new General Secretary.

From an original list of five, two candidates now remain in the race - and a run-off between the pair will take place next month.

The candidates remaining in contention after the first all-member postal vote are Keith Norman, who has been acting General Secretary since May last year, and Clive Jones, a union trustee.

The results were as follows:

Norman 2970,

Jones 1559,

Blizzard 1320,

Feldwick 930,

Burton 413.
