Stagecoach superprofits slammed

Stagecoach profits are based on hard work by railway workers, high fares paid by passengers and public subsidies which make a hollow nonsense of Brian Souter"s fetish for private enterprise, said train drivers leader Keith Norman today.

Commenting on the privatised rail and bus company"s £95.8 million "profit" he said "Every time a privatised rail company reports a profit increase based on public subsidy it adds to the case for taking rail back into public ownership".

"No doubt when pay is next under discussion or fare rises are proposed the company will plead poverty. But no-one will be listening."
