The Jack Leslie statue campaign

23 July 2020

Nearly 100 years ago, Jack Leslie should have been pulling on an England football shirt and making history, but he was denied because of his race.

Almost a century later, campaigners are raising funds for a statue to honour Jack Leslie's career as a player at Plymouth Argyle, where he scored 137 goals in 401 appearances between 1921 and 1934.

The campaign's aim is for a statue of Jack Leslie to be placed outside Plymouth Argyle's ground, Home Park. The proposed statue will be cast in bronze, full size and sit on a stone plynth. Discussions are ongoing with Plymouth City Council about the location and details of the proposals.

A group of football fans who are passionate about Jack's story has created a crowdfunding campaign page where you can donate to the statue fund.
