Successful ASLEF Action On International Rail Safety Day

30 June 2005

The union's activities at Euston Station in London proved a highly effective event in terms of publicising the safety issues that most concern us.

Over 400 members of the public signed the union"s Rail Safety Charter and significant coverage appeared in the media for our campaign.

In Euston Station and Euston Square Gardens union members hung posters, handed out leaflets and sought signatures for the Rail Safety Charter. At lunch-time there was a short event with speakers including Keith Norman, acting General Secretary of ASLEF, David Cockroft, General Secretary of the IFT, Brother Cortes from TSSA and Frances O"Grady (deputy general secretary of the TUC).

The event attracted a significant amount of publicity for the safety campaign, including coverage on BBC TV and radio, the Evening Standard, local London radio stations, Meridian TV, the Morning Star and London radio and newspapers.
