Solidarity Statement - HDP

ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, has today issued a statement in support of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey. The HDP is currently being persecuted by Erdoğan’s regime with elected mayors being removed and replaced by Erdoğan’s appointments and a detention warrant against more than 700 people has been issued against HDP deputies and co-mayors.

Mick Whelan, ASLEF General Secretary said ‘We have seen Erdoğan’s regime continue to carry out politically motivated attacks against the democratically elected representatives of the People’s Democratic Party.’

‘We have raised our concerns around the current treatment of the HDP with the Foreign Secretary and call on Erdoğan to listen to the call from the European Court of Human Rights to release Selahattin Demirtaş immediately.’

‘We send solidarity to the HDP and all their democratically elected members who are currently facing persecution from the government.”
