SWT strike cancelled

20 July 2006

ASLEF has been forced to cancel the strike action under threat of legal action from South West Trains. The company had threatened to apply for an injunction to prevent the action taking place on the grounds that the wording used in the ballot paper was technically incorrect and, significantly, to sue the union for costs so far incurred during the Waterloo dispute.

General Secretary Keith Norman has said "he is fed up to the back of the teeth with intransient and insensitive management intent on forcing our members into industrial action rather than resolve the dispute by negotiation. They have probably spent more on legal fees than it would have cost to solve the managers driving trains dispute."
