Silverlink stops in ASLEF dispute

26 October 2007

Silverlink services ground to a halt today as train driver members of ASLEF took industrial action.

‘Responsibility for this dispute lies fair and square at the company’s door. It failed to react to a clear message from 90% of its staff – our industrial action ballot result. It refused to refer the issue to an independent arbitrator – a union proposal. And now it seeks to justify its intransigence – a complete nonsense.

‘Silverlink should realise that sooner or later this issue will need to be resolved. I look forward to an end to their bluster and the beginning of their negotiation.

‘We want to get back to our jobs – but we cannot and will not accept underhand cuts to our pensions.’
